German Idealism,

Recognition

and

Identity Politics

The Bowland Auditorium (BS/005), Berrick Saul Building, University of York.

In recent years, issues of identity have played a prominent role in discourse on both the left and right sides of the political spectrum. James Clarke (Philosophy Department, University of York) will argue that the conceptual resources of German Idealism can provide crucial insights into identity politics in contemporary Europe. Charlotte Baumann (Institute for Philosophy, TU Berlin) will respond to Clarke’s lecture, providing a German perspective on the issues.
